Gifts for gamers and tech lovers under €50

Editorial still life with a gift, mug, and thoughtfully chosen objects

People who game or live on technology seem to have everything, and often they do. But they also use up the most accessories, break them, and want better ones. The secret is to stop looking for "a gadget" and ask what they use every day.

Question one: what do they play on?

Before buying anything for a gamer, find out the platform: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, or phone. Many accessories are not cross-compatible, and a controller for the wrong console is the most useless gift there is. If you cannot ask, look at what is under the TV or on the desk.

Golden rule: no surprise games

Video games are the most obvious gift and the riskiest: they may already own it digitally or dislike the genre. If you want to give a game, choose a gift card for their platform's digital store: it leaves the choice to them and avoids duplicates.

Accessories that really help

A headset with a microphone, essential for online play and available in good gaming versions under €50; a controller charging dock; an XL mouse pad for PC gamers; a travel case for handheld consoles; LED strips for the setup or behind the TV; and a headset or controller stand to keep things tidy.

For tech lovers (not just games)

A compact fast power bank; a multi-device charging station; a Bluetooth tracker for keys or luggage (check compatibility, as some work only with iPhone or only with Android); a water-resistant Bluetooth speaker; a cable organizer and travel kit; or a smart bulb or plug as a first step into the connected home.

Collector gifts

Many gamers love a particular game or series. A figure, an art book, a hoodie, a poster, or a board game inspired by their favorite title speaks about them rather than about technology, and is often appreciated precisely because they would not have bought it themselves.

What to check before buying

Compatibility with the console, PC, or phone operating system; connector type (USB-C, Lightning, jack) and included cables; recent reviews, especially on durability; warranty and returns; and the price in previous weeks, especially around Black Friday on November 27.

What to avoid

Avoid generic unbranded gadgets that often break quickly, and accessories that are too low-end for an enthusiast: a gamer notices the difference immediately. One good accessory beats three mediocre ones.
